I'm playing a live set

Even if you’re not allowed to record a video, record the audio!
Post it in mixcloud.com and give us the link!

You’re the sound technician here. Will a simple iPhone audio recording do the trick or is that not really an option?

No, an iPhone recording won’t be so good. It’ll pick up everything: the music, and the crowd. You don’t want the crowd.

He’ll have to use his DJ software’s record feature. Most DJ softwares (Traktor, Serato, VirtualDJ, Rekordbox, djay, etc) have an option to record your set.

Not really.
They all have their own special features, and their own downsides.

I agree.

But, recording the audio of your mix is legal. It won’t contain any of the kids, it’ll just be the music.
