No, an iPhone recording won’t be so good. It’ll pick up everything: the music, and the crowd. You don’t want the crowd.
He’ll have to use his DJ software’s record feature. Most DJ softwares (Traktor, Serato, VirtualDJ, Rekordbox, djay, etc) have an option to record your set.

But, recording the audio of your mix is legal. It won’t contain any of the kids, it’ll just be the music.
