Auxy Sound Wiki

#1

Hello and welcome to the Auxy sound wiki, a quick easy-to-use reference guide for the sounds, their controls, and prominent tracks that utilize the sounds. This will (in theory) be open to anyone to edit (if this wiki thing works). Thanks to MisterMaster for giving me permission to create this for the improvement of the community. Please feel free to edit any details, especially adding in styles that the sounds best fit into, as well as tracks that make excellent use of a given sound.

This wiki will be divided into three sections, each with a collapsible interface that allows for easy reference of sounds. Unfortunately there is no easy/feasible way to indent through Discourse, so please bear the formatting quirks. It’s also going to be a bit of jargon too, so bear with any unfamiliar terminology or confusing descriptions.

Any unique behavior of macros such as delay and reverb will be noted, otherwise most instruments act very similar with these macros and functionality is (mostly) the same.

A NOTE ON ADDING TRACKS IN - Please do not add any tracks in that only have a tiny bit of the sound in question, or are just your own songs and you’re trying to promote yourself. The purpose of this is to show outstanding usage of a given instrument. An example of this would be the use of Beam found in Crimson by Blackocean, or the use of Bow found in Coup by Phluze. Priority should be also given to any track featured in the feed, to give more examples as to how the sounds were used. This is not for promotion. Be on an honor system when it comes to these things. If there’s any issue, it will be taken up with the moderators.

IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE THIS ISN’T JUST BEING USED FOR PROMOTION, DO NOT ADD YOUR OWN SONGS IN AS EXAMPLES. SOMEONE ELSE MUST RECOMMEND/EDIT THEM IN

Thank you for following the above rule.

IF ANYONE CHANGES ANYTHING ABOVE THE DOUBLE LINE OTHER THAN MODERATORS OR ME (TheRealJFalc) IT WILL BE REMOVED. I LIKE MY WORDING AS IT IS THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Bass Sounds

Barber
Label Description
Pack AP-004 RAC Essentials
Waveform Saw x Sine with attack, fades into a sine wave.
Details One of the free bases, this is one of the more prominently used basses from AP-004. It has a distinctive analog sound, and the attack on the front of each note is useful for styles of music
Macro: Tone Applies a clip distortion to the waveform. The distortion is stronger when layered with other notes
Macro: Shape Adjusts the release (R) of the waveform
Styles useful All-around sound
Featured Tracks Aqua - Curve
Beam
Label Description
Pack (AP-009) Destiny
Waveform Cross between a rounded triangle mixed with a cross-breed distorted sine and square wave. It also features a slight pitch bend on the attack of the note, making a sharp hit.
Details A very heavy bass from 7 Skies, this one can be awkward to use, but is great for very heavy sounding beats and drops.
Macro: Tone Adds clipping distortion to the waveform
Macro: Shape Increases the attack (A) of the waveform by a small factor. This seems to play a use in softening the attack of the note achieved by the pitch bend.
Styles useful Heavy baselines, such as trap and dubstep.
Featured Tracks Blackocean - Crimson
Bee
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Saw with attack, high resonance and clipping distortion.
Details One of the original sounds, bee is a solid saw-based bass that has some interesting features attached to shape and tone, specifically with how the resonance functions.
Macro: Tone Increases the resonance of the waveform, creating a vox-like effect
Macro: Shape Adjusts the Sustain (S) of the attack. No shape removes most of the attack-like effect from the instrument, while full gives the full impact of the attack and sustains it out.
Macro: Lowpass Controls the amount of resonance as well as the lowpass filter on the waveform. Having it at the lowest values removes most of the resonance from the instrument
Styles useful House, Trance
Featured Tracks [ADD]
Bite
Label Description

Featured Tracks [ADD]
Blob
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Sine and a distorted sine wave that functions on an ADSR envelope that controls a bitcrush distortion on the waveform. Has a slight chorus effect as well.
Details One of the weirdest sounds of the OG pack, Blob is hard to use at times, but when used effectively can create a very heavy sound. It’s unwieldy but can be used very effectively in certain circumstances.
Macro: Tone Enables the ADSR envelope that controls the distorted sine waveform. This modulates the shape of the wave. No tone does not modulate the distorted sine waveform, full tone cycles through the entirety of the waveform
Macro: Shape Adjusts the attack (A) of the ADSR envelope controlling the distorted sine waveform. This means that the cycle is slower rising up at full volume, creating a different effect
Styles useful Heavy sounds, dubstep
Featured Tracks SUFOS - Cloud

Styles useful Anything with a sub bass
Featured Tracks [ADD]
Slope
Label Description
Pack (AP-003) 7 Skies Selection
Waveform Synthesized bass guitar sound.
Details One of the first guitar-like sounds added to Auxy, Slope can be used as a pluck instrument (with low shape) or a slight wobble bass (with high shape). This is because the filter is attached to an ADSR envelope controlled by the shape macro. Due to this versatility, it is a very ergonomic sound and fits well in many different genres.
Macro: Tone Adds a sine distortion to the waveform, giving it a wet sort of feel.
Macro: Shape Increases the decay and sustain (D&S) of the waveform as well as the filter’s decay and sustain.
Styles useful Heavy basslines, such as trap, or dubstep (with shape)
Featured Tracks aUstin Haga - Float, Mr. Serpent - Hypnotic Paralysis
Velvet
Label Description
Pack Standard Deviation

Lead Sounds

Autumn
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Triangle with chorus and slight bitcrush distortion.

Macro: Shape Increases the decay (D) of the ADSR envelope controlling part of the filter
Styles useful All-around instrument
Featured Tracks [ADD]
Bow
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Saw wave with resonance and pitch bend controlled by a LFO
Details One of the OG sounds, Bow is a very useful sound when used in the right way. Without any shape, it can function as a pluck, and with full shape it becomes a strong string-like synth with a slight pitch vibrato. Some people struggle to use it, but when used effectively it creates a very solid sound that grabs the attention of the listener.
Macro: Tone Adds a phaser to the instrument
Macro: Shape Adjusts the Attack, decay and sustain of the waveform (ADS). No shape creates a pluck effect, while full shape adds full sustain to the instrument and creates a very strong lead sound.
Styles useful All-around sound when used properly
Featured Tracks Coup by Phluze, Kleuren by Conux
Bitty
Label Description
Pack Game Waves
Waveform Altered unison saw wave with short release and bitcrush distortion
Details As one of the Game Waves sounds, Bitty is a strong saw wave that serves as one of the strongest saw-based leads. Its simple waveform allows it to be layered well with other sounds.
Macro: Tone Adds an LFO to the waveform that controls the pitch, creating a very strong vibrato-like effect
Macro: Shape Adds attack to the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform and lowers the power of the bitcrush distortion on the waveform.
Styles useful General usage, retro
Featured Tracks Words go here
Bumble
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Sine x Pulse waveform with low sustain, an envelope controlling the filter as well as an LFO controlling the rate of the pulse wave.
Details Bumble is a weird lead that lends itself best to heavier types of sound. At its core, it is a sine wave and pulse wave driven sound, but its main functionality works with how it is ranged in the lower octaves, which sets it apart from the other leads. The filter is overdriven, creating a strong sound that resonates through the lower octaves, making it a great choice for heavy-styled songs.
Macro: Tone Adds a strong clip-based distortion to the waveform
Macro: Shape Adds release to the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform.
Styles useful Heavy stuff
Featured Tracks IVO - Civil Disobedience
Canoe
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Sine wave with massive FM and detune, sounds similar to an electric organ
Details One of the original sounds, Canoe is an electric-organ like sound that functions off detuning sine waves. Caution should be used, however, as Canoe is known to strongly clip.
Macro: Tone Boosts the drive of the filter, creating a distortion to the waveform. This can cause the sound to clip.
Macro: Shape Detunes the oscilators and increases the ADSR release of the waveform
Styles useful General purpose
Featured Tracks Words go here
Castle
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Square waveform that switches to a strong detuned saw when the tone macro is applied, along with an ADSR envelope attached to the filter.
Details As one of the original sounds, Castle is very strange in its uses. Without tone, it acts like a slightly filtered square wave with a slight envelope controlling the filter. With tone, Castle is turned into a very strong detuned saw wave, creating a very distinct sound that works well as a riser.
Macro: Tone Fades the square wave into a heavily detuned saw wave
Macro: Shape Increases the decay on the envelope controlling the filter
Styles useful General purpose, risers
Featured Tracks Words go here
Cinema
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Strange sine-like waveform with chorus that adjusts with Tone
Details As one of the original sounds, Cinema is quite a strange sound. With tone adjusting the position of the sound on a wavetable, it’s really hard to nail exactly what it is supposed to sound like. It is a strong sound, however, with a deep chorus effect.
Macro: Tone Changes the position of the wavetable
Macro: Shape Adds release to the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform
Styles useful Synthwave(?)
Featured Tracks Words go here
Clever
Label Description
Pack Standard Deviation
Waveform Heavily distorted sine and triangle-like waveform that resonates almost like a gong being hit, very difficult to describe.
Details One of the leads introduced in the Standard Deviation pack, Clever is one of the weirdest sounds to date. It works similarly to Coin from The Sound Of Vivrant, in that it almost sounds and functions like a percussion instrument.
Macro: Tone Adds a strong chorus effect to the waveform
Macro: Shape Adds ADSR Release to the waveform
Styles useful Ambient textures
Featured Tracks Words go here
Circle
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Slightly detuned triangle wave with slight distortion and noise
Details A personal favorite of the OG Sounds, Circle is a very distinct triangle waveform that functions simply and effectvively.
Macro: Tone Adds noise to the waveform
Macro: Shape Adds release to the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform
Styles useful General purpose, simplistic
Featured Tracks James Lucien - Re/Fragmented
Cone
Label Description
Pack Disturbing Leads
Waveform Distorted Triangle-like waveform that becomes more distorted the longer the wave is sustained, the length of the time to distort can be changed through the Shape macro knob
Details One of the disturbing leads from the most recent pack, Cone is a strong triangle-esque sound with distortion that really gives a strong attack-like sound when used. Perfect for stab-like melodies.
Macro: Tone Detunes the waveform. No tone has the sound playing in unison, full tone has it detuned amongst three voices
Macro: Shape Adjusts the decay (D) of the ADSR-envelope controlling the waveform. More shape causes the distortion of the waveform to take longer.
Styles useful Heavy and dark styles such as Trap
Featured Tracks [ADD]
Corn
Label Description
Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Pulse x Saw with low sustain and decay on the waveform as well as the filter. It also has a LFO modulating the pulse tuning as well as a phaser
Details One of the OG Sounds, Corn is traditionally used as a pluck sound for its short sustain and decay.
Macro: Tone Increases the decay, sustain and release of the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform.
Macro: Shape Increases the attack of the envelope controlling the filter
Styles useful Plucks, house
Featured Tracks Words go here
Crook
Label Description
Pack Disturbing Leads
Waveform Saw and Sine waveform that is modulated by a strange saw-like form through an ADSR envelope and has resonance and clipping distortion
Details One of the disturbing leads, this instrument has a low sustain (S) value, meaning that longer notes get softer, making it much more of a pluck than other instruments. Adjusting the shape changes the way the ADSR envelope controls, and in practice that sustains the note out longer
Macro: Tone Reduces the resonance of the filter, removing some of the effects on the instrument.
Macro: Shape Increases the Decay (D) ofthe ADSR envelope controlling the strange saw-like waveform layering on top of the instrument. Full shape creates a strong effect on the instrument
Styles useful Heavy and dark styles such as Trap
Featured Tracks [ADD]

Pack OG Sounds
Waveform Tripple-layered supersaw with an envelope controlling the filter
Details One of the OG Sounds, Fields is a strong supersaw sound that ties a lot of functionality to the lowpass filter. At lower levels, the release and decay of the ADSR envelope are shortened to turn it into more of a pluck sound, while higher values have the sound sustaining out longer.
Macro: Tone Increases the detune of the waveform
Macro: Shape Adds decay release to the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform.
Styles useful General usage

Floppy
Label Description
Pack Game Waves
Waveform Square x Detuned Saw wave with low sustain
Details As one of the Game Waves sounds, Floppy is a retro-inspired sound that exhibits very low sustain, making it a great pluck instrument. Its basic and strong sound also works well for layering, making it very useful.

Details One of the OG Sounds, Flower is a strong saw-based lead with noise and slight detune. In addition to this, there is a waver on the note pitch through an LFO that gives it a sort of vibrato-like effect. At low shape values, it functions as a pluck, and at high shape values it is turned into a solid lead.
Macro: Tone Increases the detune of the waveform and adds a chorus effect to the waveform.
Macro: Shape Adds decay, sustain and release to the ADSR envelope controlling the waveform.
Styles useful General usage
Featured Tracks (BSJ - Poseidon)[https://soundcloud.com/brad-saint/poseidon]

I do hope this will help creators, especially new ones, to be able to easily understand sounds and maybe even for veterans to find use for sounds that they didn’t understand before.

Least favorite sound in Auxy?
#2

Cool :open_mouth: I’ve added a couple sounds

#3

More instruments have been added. Going to be looking into ways that could potentially have songs cut out specific instruments to provide projects for users to see notable uses of a given instrument besides just the feed and featured tracks.

#4

Just added one for Punch, really think this is a good idea!

#5

Thank you, I will update it with more exact details later.

A note about adding in tracks though, and I put this up in the post as well, but do not add your own tracks in. If anything, make a post here recommending the track to be added in and people can determine if it is a suitable example for the instrument, displaying exceptional usage of the given instrument. Priority should also be given to any projects in the feed.

#6

Ah sorry bout that. Theres so many tracks that use Punch and I dont wanna go through all of them right now lmao.

but yeah I understand.

#7

Alright. Just be sure to focus on tracks specifically in the feed. Even if you don’t know exactly what the tone or shape slider does for an instrument, focus on any sounds prominently used in the projects on the feed. This will help get the wiki more filled. This goes to everybody as well.

#8

I respect everybody who contributes, but some of the waveforms listed aren’t actually waveforms. For example, an 808 is usually a sine.

#9

True, but it’s the easiest way to describe the way it functions. Not to mention an 808 is a specific type of sine wave. I’ll put notes next to them as needed though ^w^

I can adjust the label as well to be “approximate shape and/or waveform”, but that’s not very concise either… so, if you have any ideas please let me know!

#10

Quality, type, etc.

#11

Quality as in…? I want to be sure I don’t misunderstand anything here. Also, some of the waveforms won’t be really… easy… to figure out (IE since slope is a sample of a bass guitar, the waveform is incredibly complex and cannot be easily expressed)

#12

Reminds me of the Auxy Sound Library table by @ToxicCaves64.

#13

Unfortunately, he said he never actually finished that. Also, crater is the sound I was making specific reference to for the macro’s being… weird. I don’t know how a pulse/square (i think it’s actually a square wave) is REVERB. xD

#14

thank you jfalc, very cool!

#16

How? What? WHAT?!?!?!

What is this witchcraft? xD

Thank you so much! This will help exponentially x3

#18

This is excellent, thank you so much for this. If you know any info on the sounds or want to contribute please don’t hesitate. I’ll make the necessary edits to the post now to add in the new formatting.

#19

The entire wiki is updated to the new formatting, and details have been added to bring more exact definitions to some of the sounds. Thank you everyone who has contributed so far, even if only a little

#20

This is a great initiative, but…

I’m wondering if people are using the appropriate tools or just guessing?

Stress
Waveform Square wave

and yet…

Stress

#21

Also, not to be a total downer, but all of this hard work will go into this and it’s going to get lost in a sea of posts. A forum isn’t really the best medium for something like this :slightly_frowning_face:

A proper wiki would be best but I’ve no idea where that could be set up for free…

#22

I’m using information I’ve collected for the original sounds at the very least, but for anything based on samples (read: Every single AP aside from the newer ones) is very difficult to concretely analyze the waveform for. I’ve just ran a check on the waveform for Stress via the sample it plays at C0, and it is indeed a sine wave with some weird stuff on the front.

I will be correcting as best I can.

Very true, I’m working to figure out a solution that also won’t run too many ads either.
